The Full metal Jacket?

What does the title say to me as an audience member?

As an audience member the title message I got was that the Full Metal Jacket meant the bullets that the soldiers use was acting as a jacket to protect them. I also thought as well that it shows that if you work as a team you will succeed. From the beginning of the film I thought it meant that the men would protect each other like a jacket would protect you from the cold. Then Private Pile died my mind has changed as they took the mick out of him and blamed him for being a little different and sometimes finding things hard. When they bullied him with soap, this was proven that they didn’t really like him and wanted to show to him that they didn’t want him ion there team anymore.

The characters we are aligned with through out the film are private joker, who was made the superior officer, with the words Born to kill on his helmet. We are aligned with Private Groomer Pile, in the first few scenes as we are shown that he has a mental condition. But by the end of the film we are aligned with Private Joker, as he is in charge and gives his soldiers orders and then he is shot and the story changes. When some of the other officers are dying they don’t take as much time with them they do not try and save their lives. When joker is killed they try and save him show this shows that the main character in the story has been killed.
